Humoral Regulation of Erythropoiesis. Xi. the Pattern of Response to Specific Therapy in Iron Deficiency Anemia.

چکیده
I NITIALLY, macrocytic red cells with a shortened life span are produced in response to intense erythropoietic stimulation, e.g., in phenyihydrazineinduced anemia, severe hlocd loss, exposure to hypoxia or the administration of erythropoietin.1 We have postulated that these macrocytes result from a shortening of the interval between differentiation of stem cells and emergence of reticulocytes together with skipping of divisions in the erythroid compartment.13 In severe iron deficiency anemia, an intense erythroid stimulation may be present but microcytes are produced. Correction of the iron deficiency in the presence of this intense erythroid stimulation might, therefore, result in the production of macrocytes. This thesis was tested in human beings and rats with iron deficiency anemia.

Delayed erythropoiesis in irradiated rats grafted with syngeneic marrow: effects of cytotoxic drugs and iron-deficiency anemia.
Erythropoiesis in spleens of lethally irradiated Lewis rats grafted with 4-35 X 10(6) syngeneic marrow cells was inhibited or delayed during the test period of 5 days; this was in marked contrast to observation in irradiated mice. The mechanism of this inhibition was the subject of this study. Pretreatment of recipients 9 days prior to irradiation with the cytotoxic drugs cyclophosphamide (CY),...
متن کاملEating Habits of Female Students Residing in a University Dormitory Focusing on Prevention of Iron Deficiency Anemia, 2009
Background and Objectives: Iron deficiency is a prevalent nutrition deficiency in the world. Women are at risk for iron deficiency anemia. Changing behavior towards healthy eating habits in women helps iron deficiency anemia decrease. The purpose of this study was to assess eating habits of female students residing in the dormitory of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences focusing ...

Iron deficiency anemia(IDA) is one of the most common nutritional problems in the world.children under 5 years old are considerd as the high risk group consisting a high proportion of IDA patients.in this group, due to the specific conditions, the complication of anemia may lead to serious consequences.this study was designed to determine the prevalence of IDA in 1-5 years old children.A total of...
متن کاملSoluble transferrin receptor for the evaluation of erythropoiesis and iron status.
Iron transport in the plasma is carried out by transferrin, which donates iron to cells through its interaction with a specific membrane receptor, the transferrin receptor (TfR). A soluble form of the TfR (sTfR) has been identified in animal and human serum. Soluble TfR is a truncated monomer of tissue receptor, lacking its first 100 amino acids, which circulates in the form of a complex of tra...
متن کاملImmune Deviation in Recurrent Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: Correlation with Iron Deficiency Anemia
Background: Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) has been controversially linked to IL-4 production in previous studies. A predominant Th1 response leads to resistance against recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC), whereas a Th2 response exacerbates the disease. Objective: To investigate the possible effect of iron deficiency on the host’s susceptibility to RVVC as a result of the Th1/Th2 cytokine ...
